People tell me how much they value my photos on social media. They must be wondering why I haven’t posted any recently. The answer is two fold. Firstly, with a broken arm a lot of things are more difficult. But also, and more importantly, I wanted to shift emphasis to my novels. It’s satisfying to be told how much people appreciate my photos, and I thank them for it, but I’d also like to benefit from a similar enthusiasm for my novels. A successful photo is produced in a click and is immediately accessible online. A glance is enough. In a busy life, maybe that’s all most people can afford. A novel, in comparison, can take a year or more to write and requires a considerable effort on the part of the reader. That effort is all the greater in a world where everything goes so quickly and everyone is clamouring for attention. Despite these hurdles, novels not only bring pleasure but can open new vistas and have a lasting impact. So, how about stopping a moment, getting comfortable and picking up one of my books, Stories People Tell for example, or StoryFolk, or Boy & Girl. Why not study the cover, front and back, then open to the first page and begin reading…
